A fresh start begins at the roots. When styling products and excess oil leave your scalp feeling weighed down, a thoughtful cleansing ritual can help restore that freshly washed feeling. AMA LUXURY® Purifying Scalp Scrub — Coffee & Green Tea brings a botanical touch to wash day with fine coffee grounds and a light, shampoo-like lather.
This guide explains its cosmetic benefits, who it is best suited for, and how to apply it with care.
What is Coffee & Green Tea Purifying Scalp Scrub?
This rinse-off scalp exfoliant helps lift away surface buildup, excess oil, and loose dead skin cells during cleansing. Fine coffee grounds provide physical exfoliation, while the formula’s green tea, niacinamide, and zinc PCA complement the cleansing experience. The product is available on our website in a 230 g / 8.1 oz jar.
Think of it as an occasional step before shampoo and conditioner, tailored to how your scalp feels. The goal is a cleaner-feeling scalp, without aggressive rubbing.
Benefits: a refreshed foundation for your hair routine
- Helps remove product buildup: useful when roots feel coated after styling products or dry shampoo.
- Washes away excess surface oil: leaves oily roots feeling fresher after rinsing.
- Provides physical exfoliation: fine coffee grounds help loosen surface dead skin cells when massaged gently.
- Helps rinse away loose visible flakes: cleansing can remove superficial flakes; persistent flaking needs a different approach.
- Creates a fresh, clean feeling: a simple way to make wash day feel more intentional.
These are cosmetic cleansing benefits. This scrub is not a treatment for dandruff, scalp disease, or hair loss, and it does not promise faster hair growth. Botanical ingredients alone do not establish clinical results for the finished formula.
Who is it for? Choose by scalp type
Oily and buildup-prone scalps
This is the product’s main intended audience: adults whose roots become oily or feel weighed down by residue. It can fit into the routines of women and men with straight, wavy, curly, or coily hair when the scalp tolerates physical exfoliation. Scalp condition matters more than curl pattern.
Normal scalps with occasional residue
If your scalp is comfortable but sometimes feels coated, occasional use may be enough. You do not need to exfoliate simply because it is wash day.
Dry, sensitive, or irritated scalps
A gritty scrub may be too irritating for dry or sensitive skin. Skip it if your scalp feels tight, sore, burning, or inflamed. Do not apply to broken skin, scratches, sores, or active irritation. If you have eczema, psoriasis, persistent dandruff, or another diagnosed scalp condition, ask your dermatologist before adding physical exfoliation.
Loose flakes do not always mean buildup. If flaking comes with persistent itching, redness, pain, or worsening symptoms, seek professional advice instead of scrubbing harder.
How to apply: your step-by-step scalp ritual
- Check the label and your scalp. Review the current ingredient list for known allergies and follow the directions on your jar.
- Wet thoroughly. Saturate your scalp and hair with lukewarm water. Avoid applying the scrub to a dry scalp.
- Part your hair into sections. This helps place a small amount directly on the scalp rather than coating the lengths.
- Massage gently for 1–2 minutes. Use the pads of your fingertips in light circular movements. Avoid fingernails and vigorous scrub brushes. Stop sooner if you feel discomfort.
- Rinse thoroughly. Lift and separate sections as water flows through the roots so that particles do not remain trapped in dense hair.
- Shampoo and condition. Follow with your usual shampoo. Apply conditioner mainly to the lengths and ends, according to its directions, then rinse.
This is a rinse-off product, not an overnight mask. More pressure or a longer massage does not mean better results.
How often should you use it?
Our current product page lists use 2–3 times per week. Treat that as a direction to consider alongside your jar’s label and your own tolerance, not a target every scalp must reach. When introducing a physical scrub, start with one use and assess how your scalp feels before repeating; less frequent use may be sufficient.
Do not use it daily or repeat it on a scalp that feels tender, dry, or irritated. Avoid combining it with another scalp scrub or exfoliating treatment in the same session. If your scalp already feels clean and comfortable, you can skip exfoliation.
Patch testing and important precautions
Before first full use, test a small amount on a small area of intact skin behind the ear. Use water, keep contact brief as directed for the rinse-off product, and rinse thoroughly. Monitor the area for at least 24 hours. Do not leave the scrub on for 24 hours. A negative home test cannot rule out a later reaction.
- For external use only. Avoid eyes; rinse with plenty of water if contact occurs.
- Do not use on broken, sunburned, irritated, or recently sensitized skin.
- Stop use and rinse if stinging, burning, redness, or discomfort develops.
- Avoid ingredients to which you have a known allergy.
- Keep out of reach of children.
- Use a clean, dry scoop and avoid introducing shower water into the jar. Close the lid after use and follow the storage instructions on the label.
